CUE- Mokume Gane (1st ever)
CUE- Mokume Gane (1st ever)
I've always admired the beauty of Mokume Gane, and the process involved in creating such an intricate metal. However, this is the first time that I've actually taken the time to work with it, and decided that a CUE was the way to go.
CUE's are a version of a Challenge Coin, but much thicker and a slightly smaller diameter than that of the coins that I normally offer. Since this was my first time working with the Mokume, I wanted to hold true to my branding, with a little twist. I'll get to that in a moment...
If you don't know, the process of making Mokume Gane started in Japan in the 17th century, and had its origins of being used in swords. Using various precious metals and fusing them together into one billet, the end result would be a beautiful pattern that mimicked wood grain... and here you have today's CUE.
This Mokume that this particular CUE comes from, consists of copper, brass, and a mix of nickel-copper. One side features my 3Leaf branded Skull in a 3D format and "3Leaf Customs- Never Rely on Luck", while the opposing side is deeply engraved with my 3Leaf "Crossed Fingers & Clover" artwork along with "2024". I did change the motto at the bottom from the original "Never Rely on Luck" to "No Luck Needed" only to keep things interesting.
Multiple processes were performed on this CUE to get the end result. I sandblasted the piece to clean it up a bit, put it through two different stonewashes, gave it a deep etch to give a COOL TACTILE FEEL, blackened it, and then once again stonewashed before applying Odie's Oil...
